Van der Maan, Inventor

For the youth section of newspaper Trouw ('Zanzibar') I made a short series called De vindingen van ir. Van der Maan (The inventions of engineer Van der Maan). For this I asked teacher-friends of mine to collect ideas at the school they worked on: what did kids really really want the engineer to invent. A selection were worked out in these short gags, and published in 1991.

Eine kleine Nachhaltigkeit

The launch of issue #8 of Kieler comic magazine Pure Fruit will be coming Friday, but my contribution to it already online here & now. 'Eine kleine Nachhaltigkeit' (poking Mozart's ribs) is not my first German language publication, but definitely the longest yet.
Staying close to the theme of this PF issue, the story tells about the origin of the concept of 'sustainability', and personal dealings with it in everyday life.
Viel Spaß!

Men of Steel

'Mannen van staal' (Men of Steel) was made for the Utrecht City Archive as part of a publicity campaign in 2006 to choose the most historical event. A collaboration with De Inktpot magazine, in which #11 it was also printed. In fact this is my tribute to the vanished steel industries that used to dominate the east of my hometown.

Ermines

In the early nineties I published a DIY magazine called Klein ('small'), purely for fun, and distributed it through snailmail to a selected group of friends and others who I thought might be interested. Smallscale in reach and format (A7), and in life... it lasted only 5 editions. I do have a relatively short concentration span and am over-eager to push my creative borders, a constant in my life which isn't handy for building up an oeuvre, I know...
Klein contained 'art trouvé', poetry, information snippets and rough computer graphic experiments. Of which the one below, originally titled 'Hermelijntjes', is an example. Text in it recently translated for international public:

The Soul of Kiel exhibition

Today an exhibition of the works I made in Kiel in September will be hanging in the big restaurant of Traum GmbH (Grasweg 19, 24118 Kiel, Germany). Just until the weekend of November 21/22.
All 22 panels are A3-format artprints, containing drawings of the city and sketchbookpages.
If you are not able to view it IRL, you can here, sort of 'forever'. And if you care for high resolution files or originals, don't hesitate to contact me!
